  55.         This document and JCAT screens use abbreviatios to
  56.             represent keyboard keys.  These keys are enclosed
  57.             in square brackets.

  59.             Thus, [A] denotes the key "A" on the keyboard.
  60.         [Enter] refers to the "ENTER" key, etc.
  61.             Combined representations such as [Alt][H] mean hold
  62.             down the "Alt" key and type the letter "H".

  67.      INTRODUCTION:

  70.             JCAT version 1.1 was compiled with Borland C++
  71.             version 3.1.
  72.  
  73.             JCAT (Joe's disk catalog, pronounced jay cat) as the
  74.             name implies, is a disk catalog utility that will read
  75.             and catalog diskettes/files.  It will catalog diskettes
  76.             in either drive A or B.  JCAT is completely menu-driven
  77.             and, its multiple windows allow easy access to all its
  78.             functions and utilities.  Versions 1 and 2 do not
  79.             include other than password utilities.

  83.      A QUICK START:

  86.             1. Unzip the file JCAT.ZIP to a sub-directory or
  87.                diskette
  88.  
  89.                You should then have the following files:

  91.                  JCAT.EXE

  93.                  JCAT.PIF
  94.                  JCAT.BAT
  95.                  JINSTALL.EXE

  100.                If any of these files is missing, or you suspect tampering
  101.                send a self-addressed  mailer with a diskette OR $4.95 to
  102.                the above address for a fresh copy of JCAT1.1

  105.             2. Make the disk/directory that contain JCAT the default. 
  106.             3. If the file JSETUP.BAT or JINSTALL.EXE is available,
  107.                execute it and answer to the prompts as appropriate 
  108.                to install JCAT on your hard disk, 
  109.

  112.             3b. Create the directory "C:\DOS\JCAT" and copy all the
  113.                files to it.
  114.             3. Type JCAT at the DOS prompt and, from JCAT's main
  115.                menu...
  116.             4. Press [ALT][I] (hold down alt key and press 'I').
  117.             5. Press Y at the prompt proceed? (y/N) to initialize
  118.                JCAT.

  121.             You are now ready to use JCAT.
  122.             If needed, press "C" from the main menu to configure
  123.             JCAT's screen colors and other parameters.

  126.             JCAT is menu driven.  Read the menus carefully and
  127.             select the first letter of each menu to access the
  128.             corresponding function.

  132.             If you are using WINDOWS use the file JCAT1.PIF or
  133.             JCAT.PIF to start JCAT.

  140.             You can exit or abort many functions by pressing
  141.             the [esc] (escape key) at any time.

  144.             To register JCAT and obtain the updated version 2.0
  145.             or version 3.0,
  146.             print out and fill in the enclosed file REGISTER.TXT
  147.             and mail it with your personal check, money order,
  148.             or cashier's check to the address above.  PLEASE DO
  149.             NOT ENCLOSE CASH.  Make all    checks payable to
  150.             Joe Akpan at the above address.

  153.             The NOTEPAD (version 3 only) uses the DOS editor
  154.             EDIT.EXE which must    be in the DOS PATH.  If you are
  155.             using another editor, rename a copy of it to EDIT.EXE
  156.             and place it in the DOS PATH.

  159.         Some functions of JCAT are only accessible with
  160.         [Alt] key.  Press [Alt][H] at the MAIN menu to see
  161.             these finctions.
